As we all continue to suffer in lockdown (play lots of CR) I have decided to try and put together a one day, 16 man, pro event. I thought of this a while ago, and since then we have been fortunate enough to have CWA and No Tilt bring us various events to keep us entertained. As well as being entertaining time fillers, they are nice prequels to the CRL West season many of us are waiting for. I am writing this blog post as I will need help and support to get this off the ground. I am calling this event "Duos", or maybe even "Grampa's Duos", because I am very egotistical. THE FORMAT 16 players will take part. These players will form 8 teams of 2. Hence "Duos" It will be a single elimination bracket (see pic) Teams will play one set of 2v2 and then two sets of 1v1. If any team wins the 2v2 and then the first set of 1v1, they win the match 2-0 and advance. The line-ups for the 1v1 sets will be determined by an independent draw. THE CATCH Our 16 participating pros DO NOT get to choose their own teams. They will be selected via a random draw. After the first round of eliminations, when 8 players remain, the teams will once again be redrawn randomly. This process will continue to the final. Thus, team-mates from one round might become enemies in the next. These players will be given a short amount of time to organise their 2v2 decks with their new team-mate, as well as their communication. THE PLAYERS I have a preliminary list of about 10 players I would like to see taking part. My list is composed of players who have a strong history in competitive 2v2. I feel this is necessary for a "fairer" comp, but I am open to suggestions. Naturally there will be issues such as availability, as I have included some CRL East players. THE OTHER STUFF My aim is for a prize pool of $400US. I will contribute 25% of this, so I am seeking people willing to sponsor the remainder. We will also need volunteers in areas like artwork for social media, content creators wishing to stream the event, and admin to ensure everything flows smoothly on the day. There's probably more, but I am a noob at this and am simply including the very little which sits at the top of my old head. So, as the title of this blog says, please help.
