CLAN WARS 2 UPDATE DISCUSSION

The first issue I wish to address is a statement I keep hearing which I do not believe is accurate... "It took 2 years for this?" I'm not sure where people are getting the 2 years from. I felt like we were getting regular updates at about a 3 month interval. Sure, not all of them were huge, but things kept happening. I'm pretty sure it hasn't been 2 years since seasons were added. Personally, I was expecting the next update around last December, but lets speculate on why we didn't get it then. I assume the team have a list of things they'd like to do. I also assume they have some kind of plan in terms of priorities. When it was time to consider this update, given all the feedback from the community, surely Clan Wars had to be the number one priority. It is a major feature of the game, and it stunk. Everyone was sick to death of it. Now, as a maxed player or a pro in the small Twitter community, it is easy to only hear what is in our bubble. We'd all love 2v2 ladder or something new like that, but...priorities. Now that the guys have decided the update will be focused on CW2, what next? First you have to come up with a new idea. Then you have to develop the idea just to test it. You can't implement something of this scale on a hunch and hope it works without glitches. This would have been a massive process for the dev team. They needed something fresh which wouldn't fail like CW1. Then along came the Rona and the ability to work side by side for about 3 months. "Yeah but Brawl Stars kept doing updates" On what scale? Certainly nothing as huge as CW and most likely something far more simple. CR can do simple quickly too, but they were involved in a massive project. So I hope that gives you an understanding of the time frame. Now lets look at the update itself. My initial reaction was disappointment. It looked exactly like CW1 but just in nice, new packaging. LOL, some people didn't even like the packaging. However, as I begin to understand more and more about how this is going to work, it does look far more interesting. In a nutshell - over the course of a week, the aim is to get your clan boat first across the line for the best rewards. To do so, you engage in battles to earn fame and advance this boat. I actually love the 4 decks policy as well as Bo3. It definitely encourages people to learn deck diversity. It seems like this bit sucked in the creator clan because we simply smashed everybody, however that is not how this is intended to work. You see, you can also attack the enemy boats to slow them down or reverse them. Then you have to repair your own boat before you can battle again. So imagine leagues which are nicely balanced, something I see happening with time, and suddenly you have a very competitive boat race with players carefully juggling their deck management to best serve the clan. I assume there will be less bad match ups as time goes on. Supercell can't help it if a level 10 joins a legendary clan and then complains about levels. That level 10 should focus on attacking with their best deck and using their other decks to damage enemy boats. Everybody has a role to play. At this stage, I still have no idea how boat repairs works, but again, somebody has to do it. My initial outlook has changed. I can see the overall vision of the devs and what they hoped to achieve. Even at the very top, the best players in the world should be in clans vs each other and competing in robust boat races...eventually, as we split into fairer leagues. ...and then there is the end of season bit which we know nothing about. That surprise still awaits us. All hope is not lost. If you are a casual, this should be a very good update for you. The wars will improve quickly and so will your progression. My real disappointment comes with the lack of a few QOL changes I felt could have been added. We are all screaming for more deck slots, and especially now that CW2 requires us to build 4 decks. Some slots in which to store my war decks would be nice. Finally, I hope that the dev long term plan will look after us OG guys next. The last 2 years have been strongly orientated towards the casuals and helping them progress. In that time, our numbers continue to grow (I'm talking about maxed players who have reached their ladder cap) and if we too are not looked after, you'll lose us. Surely, SURELY, 2v2 ladder is next.
